HH Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi and Jaipur Rugs unveiled a collection of artisan carpets
Inspired by the ancient landscapes of Mleiha and Faya, Whispers of the Desert collection translates desert beauty time into contemporary woven art.
Carpets can tell stories – about land, time, and the people who came before us. When those landscapes are translated into weaving, a rug becomes a tactile reminder of where we are, what came before, and how deep a place’s memory can be.

Created under the vision of HH Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi and crafted by the master artisans of Jaipur Rugs, Whispers of the Desert collection draws inspiration from the ancient landscapes of Mleiha and Faya – two sites in the UAE that have witnessed human adaptation and creativity for more than 200,000 years.
Comprising ten one-of-a-kind pieces, Whispers of the Desert translates geological forms, shifting light, and the endurance of desert environments into woven expressions of time and place. Each carpet reflects a shared philosophy linking Sharjah and Jaipur: craft holds knowledge, and work made with patience and care carries meaning across generations.

This unique collaboration brings together two UNESCO-recognised cultural contexts and a clear commitment to craftsmanship as cultural testimony. Across the series, windswept dunes, mountains, hidden oases, and celestial rhythms are interpreted through nuanced textures, layered palettes, and intricate weaving techniques, resulting in contemporary works with a strong sense of time and scale.
For HH Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi, the starting point was “a shared belief between Jaipur and Sharjah” that work made with “intention and care” can carry memory across time. She described Whispers of the Desert as a tribute to Mleiha and Faya, “enduring witnesses to human creativity and continuity”, adding that respectful cultural creation can become “a bridge between people and the places they inhabit, across generations”.

The collection was launched in the beginning of February at Bait Elowal in the heart of Sharjah, a heritage house overlooking Sharjah Creek, long associated with exchange of world creative craftsmanship and a true showcase of authentic Emirati culture.

The strength of work like this lies in its quiet precision. It’s a reminder that culture doesn’t need to be loud to carry weight. Sometimes a fine thread between landscape and craft, between two cities and two traditions, is enough to create a shared space – where ideas move freely and heritage is kept alive.
